Jenny Simpson

Jenny Simpson’s marathon career followed one of the most accomplished middle-distance careers in U.S. running. A three-time Olympian, she won the 2011 world 1,500-meter title, world silver medals in 2013 and 2017, and Olympic bronze in Rio in 2016. New York also became a defining part of her story: she won the 5th Avenue Mile eight times, including seven consecutive victories from 2013 through 2019. [1]

Her 2024 New York City Marathon marked the close of her professional racing career, rather than the beginning of a new full-time marathon campaign. In a later conversation with New York Road Runners, she reflected on retirement and the Run USA trip she undertook with her husband, visiting running communities around the country. Her connection to the sport has also included mentoring young runners as a Rising New York Road Runners ambassador and special advisor. Those community roles give context to a career that reaches well beyond the marathon time listed on this page. [2][1]
