Mark Messmer

Mark Messmer’s marathon career has developed alongside nursing. His 2024 Olympic Trials biography identified the Missoula native as a registered nurse and director of nursing at a surgery center in Colorado. He qualified for Orlando with a 2:17:27 at the 2023 Houston Marathon, adding national-level racing to a professional life outside running. [1]

Messmer has also built a sustained connection to his hometown race. In 2024, the former University of Montana runner won his fifth consecutive Missoula Marathon title. That local record supplies a different view of his career from a single fast marathon: repeated returns to the same event, as well as appearances in major-marathon and Trials fields. He later ran 2:14:48 at the 2025 California International Marathon, continuing his improvement at the distance. [2][3]
